Call or email your congresspeople today and tell them to vote yes on the Performance Rights Act (HR 848)

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The Performance Rights Act (HR 848) is a bill that would require terrestrial (FM/AM) radio companies to pay performance royalties on the music they air. All other forms of broadcast are required to do this, but radio’s giant lobby has kept them exempt for 50 something years. Click on the link and you can send an email to your congresspeople and the president.

If you care about keeping a vital, diverse music industry, call or email your representative and tell them to protect Internet radio and provide a fair marketplace for all broadcast mediums!

Take a Seat

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I saw this situation in Blackmail on South Congress. Imagine you’ve been walking around the local shops in 90 degree heat. All you want to do when you get inside a bit of air-conditioning is have a seat. Now imagine the only chair in the joint is cradling twenty creepy doll heads! And why not?

Millennium Falcon Pizza

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Home Slice Pizza in Austin has a bunch of fun menu covers. One depicts the different components of a slice of pizza as snap-out model parts. My favorite, though, is this picture of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s ship from Star Wars, with the details done in pizza toppings.

Guilty Pleasure: R. Kelly versus Broken Social Scene

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

This is a great remix of R. Kelly’s song “I’m a Flirt” with the Broken Social Scene song “7/4 Shorline”. Shoreline is one of my favorite songs ever. I love the fact that it’s in a weird time signature and yet is still so poppy. I’m not a fan of R. Kelly at all. He can stay trapped in the closet all he wants. That’s why it hurts me that this remix is so damn good. I also find it amazing that someone heard both of these songs and realized they would work together. Amazing.

Just for your own edification, you ought to listen to the original 7/4 Shoreline. Check the video out here:
