We’ve gotten to play with some really great bands so far, and our show at Red 7 on Aug 5 will apparently be no exception. I personally had never hear Red Fox Grey Fox until Giant Steps (the booking agent/promoter) for the show offered us the spot. As is my habit, I popped over to their mySpace to give them a listen and add them as friends. After listening to about 20 seconds of the first song, I knew I needed this album. Needed it. The music reminds me of Appleseed Cast and the golden age of Midwest indie rock, but the real hook for me was Pete Miller’s voice. It calls to mind Jeremy Enigk and Sunny Day Real Estate, if only in its high register and delitcate delivery. However, unlike many Enigk followers, Miller’s voice is beautiful and melodic without being at all whiney and like so few Sunny Day imitators, he can actually sing in tune. Doesn’t seem like that should be a rare thing, but it is. If you’re into Appleseed Cast or Sunny Day or any of their contemporaries, you owe it to yourself to head over to www.myspace.com/redfoxgreyfox and give them a listen. I got the album from eMusic, but it looks like you can also get the album from Say Rah! Records or direct from their mySpace page. Check ‘em out!
